Pain Management and Our 3 Step Approach
Chinese medicine is excellent for managing pain. It has been clinically proven to reduce pain and reduce the need for pain medication*. There are several modalities within Chinese medicine that can be effectively executed for pain management. These include:
- Acupuncture - both body and auricular (ear) acupuncture
- Gua Sha (painless frictional rubbing through the skin)
- A combination of Cupping and Gua Sha known as Ba Gua Fa, developed by Dr. Richard Freiberg OMD DAc AP LAc
Our 3 Step Approach starts with (1) Ba Gua Fa (cupping and gently scraping the skin over the area of pain). Typically, this treatment reduces pain by 50-100% after the first treatment; however, if the patient does not feel relief after this treatment, (2) acupuncture needles are used treat the pain. Last of all, (3) homeopathy and/or chinese herbs are used to treat the chronic pain.
**Note: This is not a painful treatment. The redness present on the skin following our cupping technique is your body releasing "stuck" inflammation and toxins that contribute to chronic pain.**
Below are a few pictures illustrating the effectiveness of Ba Gua Fa. Inflammation and congestion can remain lodged inside our soft tissue (causing pain) for an indeterminate period of time unless an action is executed to "bring out" the inflammation and help your body resolve it. The red areas in the pictures below show this chronic inflammation being brought to the surface. Once at the surface, your body can resolve it, thus eliminating chronic pain.
